Meet Carla Barroso.

Carla’s career began in South Africa, where she worked as a laboratory technician at Iscor, and took her to Portugal, where she worked with Mitsubishi Motors and rose from office manager to operations manager at Pestana Hotels & Resorts.

In London she spent two decades inside global energy, engineering and infrastructure companies: ten years as Administration Manager at KBR, then Statoil, JGC and five years at Tideway, the company building London’s new “super sewer”. She ran the offices where international teams met, negotiated and reported in English, and led and trained the staff in her teams. Along the way she saw how often capable people were held back by how they spoke, not by what they knew.

Since 2021 Carla has taught English full-time through her own practice. Fluent in English and Portuguese, she now coaches professionals and teams in Portugal to speak with the confidence their experience deserves. She is TEFL-certified, holds a Management Diploma with Distinction, is a Mental Health First Aider and volunteers as a mentor with The Diana Award’s mentoring programme.
